The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, commented on today’s explosive revelations by another Centrelink whistleblower regarding the Government’s dodgy debt recovery program.
“A number of whistleblowers have already approached me to tell their story, the result being I have passed the information on to the Commonwealth Ombudsman to assist his inquiry into the Government’s deeply flawed Centrelink debt recovery program,” Mr Wilkie said.
“The latest revelations helpfully add to this material and in particular explore issues like doubling income, non-assessable income, fictitious payments, false recovery fees and corrupted reviews.
“No wonder Centrelink are sending out 4,000 incorrect notices every week when the program is so riddled with errors and when Centrelink frontline staff are being bullied to just implement it regardless of the dreadful hurt being done to the community by doing so.
“For the Government and Centrelink management to now be referring to the federal whistleblower framework and the Public Service Code of Conduct is further evidence that they just don’t get it because the debt recovery program is the problem, not Centrelink staff.”
