Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

This debt has been something that has been looming over me for the current year as a result of a small mishandling of the previous year.

It really shocked me to see that I had to pay $3000 and when I went to a centrelink centre they just told me I had to call them instead rather than having a table negotiation.
This annoyed me mainly because I just couldn't understand why I can't have a discussion when I have to pay off a huge debt.

I was so glad to know that there were other people like me who have had a similar awful experience, I'm on welfare and its my main source of welfare for my family because we don't have jobs, for many people who cannot get a job they need to rely on this service in order to spend on produce to help the working class.

Giving the poor a debt is just really scummy when the federal government gives huge tax breaks to the wealthy and blame the poor for being in a hugely competitive environment when only 3/10 people can get jobs.

My stress when through the roof after seeing how much I had to pay off, it came at a bad time after realising that my life had honestly been doing quite badly in the past year.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Quite poorly honestly, the problem was that they had claimed that because I was doing part time study which I never wanted to do because I was shifted from full time to part time that they can easily slap on a claim that I was being overpaid.

Admittedly I did fail to change my current study plan to part time on my part however I should've received an email or a simple phone call from centre link instead.
After concluding that I was a part time student, they had failed to contact me about overpaying me as if I was still a full time student.

The bigger problem is that they actually made sure that the debt statement was given to me LITERALLY 1 MONTH BEFORE I HAD TO PAY IT OFF.
I was given the statement of debt on JAN 2018 and had to pay by FEB 2018.

I simply cannot pay off $3000 on my own as I have no job or alternative source of income.
Centrelink should've contacted me about cutting my payments instead of overpaying me, because if they had actually called me immediately about my studying status change (A YEAR AGO) then I would've surely have cut off the payments in order to avoid this debt.
