Both my partner and I received letters via mygov stating that we owe a combined amount of $1200.
Unfortunately once again the mygov site and the centrelink app did not show that we had letters waiting to be opened so we've only just found out.

I am a full-time university student who works and is the primary provider for the both of us.
My partner only works 5 hours a fortnight and is studying at Tafe but centrelink refuse to upgrade his payment from job-seeker to student for some reason that we still haven't had explained properly to us.
Furthermore in June/July during my exam prep period we were told that we had been randomly chosen to have our payments re-evaluated (make sure they're paying us correctly/that we're reporting everything etc).
We ended up having to do it all over the phone at a centrelink because my exams clashed with their designated time, because of this all the documents they requested had to be copied and (i believe) faxed over for the centrelink officer to look at; 3 weeks later we received an arreared payment for rent assistance as they were paying us incorrectly and were told that otherwise everything was all good.

Fast forward to end of Sept/start of Oct and we receive a phone call saying that they've lost all our supporting documents that were provided for the evaluation and that we needed to re-do it.
Once again during an exam period I might add.
We asked them if it was necessary as they'd completed the evaluation anyway and our payments had been fixed up and everything they told us they still needed the documents and gave us a couple weeks.

Week and a half later they call again telling us not to bother and they'd found the documents and once again everything checked out except for rent assistance (which had once again gone down during this documentation issue) and we received another arreared payment.

So to summarise they re-evaluated our payments twice. Raised our payments, then lowered during second re-evaluation and then raised it again when they found our documents and now they're telling us that we owe them money.

Because my partner works according to school terms and his hours are different every term and I am a casual shift worker, I believe they've taken our Tax data and averaged out our annual earnings which of course wont match up every fortnight because we dont work the same hours every fortnight.

Going off the many stories on here we're going to just have to pay the amount despite the problem being them.

I'm incredibly anxious about having to call them to fix this as they've continuously screwed us around before.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

This computer based process they've got going on is not working nor appropriate.
Causing huge amounts of distress.
