I recently received an employment information statement. My heart sank when I realised that Centrelink were asking for payslips dating back to 2015. I knew that this was the government's formal way of smothering full time students, with more debt.
Centrelink have been auditing everyone around me. Who all fall under the fall time student umberella.
Most of us work in hospitality, which is a pretty demanding environment, not sure if the boys from Shore have experienced sheer hard labour, but each to their own. Hospitality needs your undivided attention. So throwing in the towel at 10 hours a week, is not only unfair to your peers. But the workplace wouldn’t survive if all their employees (who are all students) followed these ridiculous rules.
Having said that, Centrelink takes care of my rent. But that’s it. I take care of everything else. Medicare, school equipment, food, clothing and if I’m lucky- savings.
It’s hard when my uni requires 24 hrs a week of class attendeance with 40 hrs of homework (I study fashion), with work and now Centrelink demanding money I really don’t have.
$10K, they have got to be joking.
We pay tax to illeviate this stress so you can concentrate on succeeding on your dream.
But it’s all a political mishap, they’re in debt and we’re bailing them out.
It’s actually corrupt, I wish I never joined this backwards system. I should’ve worked more hours to avoid this bullshit.
