Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

What I don’t understand is they have told me I have a debt once for the period of 2017-2018 of $4000. It thought that would be it but then they called again in early 2019 to tell me I had a $7000 debt for the period of 2017-2018. So effectively it’s now $11,000 for the same period. I asked how that could be and they gave me some ridiculous reply of the “system” had to backdate the debt? I had previously supplied them with payslips and I thought the issue was dealt with but then they hit me with another $7,000. I am a single mum who works part time and I receive no child support. I wish I knew more about how it worked because I’m struggling to pay this debt off. I usually get a bit of relief at the end of the financial year with the FTB balancing but this year they took my entire supplement payment to help pay off my “debt”. I feel sick when I think about it.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

I don’t know why or how they have calculated this debt but it’s crippling an already struggling single working mother.
