Got a letter saying i was overpaid from August till September and that was not studying full time at university, however i was studying full time at university from 1/8-18/8 and had to drop down to part time due to stress. Have provided evidence of this to centerlink and they put the debt to be reassessed, due date for debt was December and as that date got closer and i still had no answer i went into a centerlink branch as i was anxious about whats going on. I was told "its still under review and not to worry about the due date as it is under review" so i didnt worry about the due date. In december i got a letter stating i hadnt paid the debt due and had 14 days to pay it YET it being UNDER REVIEW so i called the debt team up on 30/12 and was told they have "put a hold on the debt untill it has been reviewed" and i got a reference number for this.
Early January i recieved a very sketchy txt from Dun & Bradstreet and shrugged it off as a scam txt so i didnt contact them until i was informed by a friend that they are centerlinks debt collecters. So I rang them and was like whats the go and they told me "you have to pay your debt and i was like no it has been put on hold and their reply was no centerlink gave us your debt we need payment eventhough i told them its under review". They didnt care and havent send me out a letter regarding them collecting the debt, i went into centerlink that day to ask what is happening and they said "yes the debt is on hold and being reviewed we cant do anything with dun & bradstreet you have to sort that out yourself" so i called them and told dun & bradstreet this and they took the reference numbers off me and said we still need the money eventhough i told them its on hold and under review to which they didnt care about, this whole process made me loose it yesterday and i had a mental breakdown so now due to this i am incredibly stressed, axious and too scared to answer any phone calls that isn't my parents, partner or work
APPALLING how can centerlink send off details of a debt that has been PUT ON HOLD and is UNDER REVIEW with evidence of this to debt collectors and not talk to debt collectors to help sort it out, so now i am incredibly stressed and anxious with no idea what is going on and if the debt collectors are going to come knocking at my door or keep harassing me via mobile phone to which now i am too scared to answer my phone if it isn't my parents, partner or work, as well as scared my income will be taken off me without warning and how i will be able to live without my work income.
