I was confused but as it was a long time ago, I pulled out bank statements & tax returns to try & work out WTF was going on. Simultaneously (fortunately) the egregious nature of these debts hit the press/social media. I was not stressed about the debt, being forced to resign my job in the same week kinda overshadowed it..
The Government were clearly manipulative, dishonest & ammoral in how they handled it. Centrelink staff who I spoke to were understanding & did their best to stick to script but more or less explained it was the 'computer's error but would I like to set up a direct debit? NO. Being firm, bloodyminded not going anywhere near the myGov account & speaking to a compliance officer who happily was able to alter two anomalies my debt was rendered nonexistent. Indeed Centrelink apparently owe me.
