We are a single income family and claimed correctly that hubby had no wage or income for the 2014/2015 tax year. received both family tax benefit a and b, plus a single income low family income benefit. When completing our 2015/2016 tax returns as hubby had found a job we were told by the ato that we could claim back some private health insurance that had been placed against hubbys TFN and was asked if we wanted to claim it... A whole 200.00. Advised them ok and received it back when we got our tax returns. Then received a letter from Centrelink advising we owed the single income supplement and also some of the family tax due to the late lodgement of the tax return. We advised that our family income had not changed and the only thing claimed was as ATO told us to do it, and the tax return was not due to income, and the non lodgement advice given to them did still reflect our family income. Still waiting on a review despite chasing weekly. Paying back the debt negates any benefit we get

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Not fair it's been nearly six months and nobody has even looked at it. They were quick to chase and everyone I speak to says they can see our income did not change. But no one will actually fix it
