Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

I am in hospital recovering from a stroke - and am (still) having terrible difficulty having a claim assessed for Centrelink support. I received a letter (vie myGov informing me of Overpayment relating to a period between Dec 2014 and April 215, when I was between employment.
On top of the stress of my attempts to recover and to have Sickness Benefits claim processed, this was deeply distressing.
Fortunately i was given a copy of the "Dear Hank" ABC news item, encouraging people to ring Compliance asap and to email Hank Jongen (& minions) immediately in order to avoid triggering threatened debt collection and cancellation of any claims. After a very stressful night I prepared myself for the endurance it would take to deal with this. Fatigue is one of the difficult outcomes for people surviving and trying to recover from a Stroke event.
Usually it takes about 90 mins to get through to Claims, but it took only 10 mins to get through to Compliance .
I explained my circumstances (stroke, hospital etc)to the the C officer who answered -unusually she did not immediately proceed to repayment options but said she would review my case. She challenged my name (unmarried) against married name (I asked her to check the C info regarding multiple names) -"oh, yes", she said "I am see that. She queried my employer who they had listed as 2 different names. I suggested she check the ABN-again -their error. Thirdly she queried my having left a previous employer in Dec 2014 but then recording income from them in Feb 2015. I explained that I had been offered different work in different faculty which had not been available until then. "Ok, all good," she says. When I queried what that meant, she responded that it was "only a system error".
I explained that it was a human that this happened to and that the letter suggested wrongdoing on my part and had caused medical and personal stress. No acknowledgment -and I am still waiting for my claim to be processed.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Extremely and unnecessarily stressed -medically and personally. I felt bullied and scared to complain even though I knew I was right, have been worried about ramifications for my still unresolved claim
