Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

The whole process has been hugely stressful and no one seems to give a clear answer as to how the debt may have occurred.
I have had a couple of explanations and could not understand them.

I got pay slips and took them into a Centrelink office and this only resulted in a $112 deduction from their original assessment of the debt owing.
In the end it was causing me so much stress and anxiety I decided to pay it out as i just wanted the whole thing to "go away".

I DON'T understand how a debt can be accumulated over a 3 year period with out finding this being brough to my attention at the end of the first financial year.
To come at me 2 years later, (after austudy was ceased 2 years ago) and pull up 3 individual debts over the 3 year period of claiming Austudy, seems almost cruel.

My finances have taken a huge blow with this unexpected debt and I feel sorry for people receiving these letters.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

I think it is disgusting the way law abiding individuals who genuinely believe they have filled out their earnings acculturately are now being hounded years later with massive debts bills.

I pay huge tax every year and honestly did not believe the earnings reported at the time of claiming assistance were inaccurate. If they were this should have been picked up at the end of EACH financial year. Not accumulate over 3 years and the debt sent out 2 years after ceasing for receiving and payment.

this is putting a huge strain on many people I'm sure and like myself hugely stressful and upsetting.
